The disAbility Law Center of Virginia came to give a 3-part presentation on “Knowing Your Rights”, “Voting Rules/Regulations”, and “Rights Restoration” geared for disabled Virginians.
It was a very interesting presentation! We are more confident in our understanding of the “voting process,” and feel that it was important to learn about special accommodations that are available for voters who have a disability. For example, have you heard of “Curbside Voting?” Curbside Voting is a special accommodation that can be made for disabled voters who are unable to vote absentee, or do not have the ability to enter their polling location. It means just what you think it means – poll workers will come out and assist you if you are unable to get inside!
It is important to know that this organization is available to assist disabled Virginians! They have an easy to use website (www.dlcv.org) as well as having an advocate on-duty Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM to discuss disability advocacy issues. Give them a call toll-free at 800-552-3962!
