2017 Honorable Mention Winners – Christine Brady, Madison Wessells, & Bradley Conner
Christine Brady
Christine Brady was a senior at Broadwater Academy when she was announced as one of three Honorable Mention Recipients for the 2017 Kate Award. Christine was actively involved in community service events through her school and assisted a number of community organizations with her volunteer work. She has assisted with fundraising events such as the “February Freeze”, which raises funds for the Eastern Shore Habitat for Humanity, as well as “Daffodil Day”, an event which raises money and awareness for cancer patients. Christine has also volunteered for other events throughout the community such as providing pony rides at fundraising events in the town of Cape Charles, as well as spending quality time with residents at Quail Run Assisted Living and helping the facility in preparing for the holidays.
Madison Wessells
Madison Wessells was a junior at Broadwater Academy when she was recognized as one of three Honorable Mention Recipients for the 2017 Kate Award. Madison was involved in many volunteering activities through her school and participated in events such as the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference as well as the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference. Madison was also an Athletic Trainer for her school, a highly accomplished Girl Scout, and a certified EMT.
Bradley Conner
Bradley Conner was a senior at Chincoteague High School when he was named as one of three Honorable Mention Recipients for the 2017 Kate Award. Bradley was very active in the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company Junior Fire Department and has assisted with many charitable events through his service there. Bradley was even elected to the office of Assistant Junior Fire Chief of the Fire Company. Bradley has also assisted with other charitable events throughout the community such as volunteering with the Island Foodbank during holiday food drives and helping with the Youth Program at the Union Baptist Church.
