2019 Honorable Mention Winners – Tyler Joynes and Elizabeth Reid!

Tyler Joynes was a senior at Nandua High School when he was selected as an Honorable Mention Recipient of the 2019 Kathleen Walsh Richardson Citizenship Award.  Tyler participated in a wide variety of volunteering activities through the Wachapreague Volunteer Fire Company and has been volunteering with this fire company since he was very young.  Volunteering activities that Tyler has participated in through the fire company include: having assisted with the Wachapreague Volunteer Fireman’s Carnival by operating the Clown-a-Round ride and helping with cooking at the Cook Shack, Tyler collected food for those in need for the Foodbank of the Eastern Shore, and he helped to support the Special Olympics Area 19 through fundraising activities.  Tyler also graduated from the Fire Fighter Academy at Eastern Shore Regional Fire Training Center in Melfa and assisted in fighting a fire in his neighborhood where 3 community members were rescued safely!

Elizabeth Reid

Elizabeth Reid was a senior at Northampton High School when she was awarded as an Honorable Mention Recipient of the 2019 Kathleen Walsh Richardson Citizenship Award.  Elizabeth was involved in a number of volunteering efforts throughout the community including: having assisted her school’s National Honor Society with collecting and delivering food to those in need for the Foodbank of the Eastern Shore, planted beach grass to promote environmental conservation through her Marine Biology Class, helped with community fundraisers to raise money for local families in need, and helped to operate the Northampton Wrestling Team’s “Color Run” where proceeds benefitted a local woman diagnosed with brain cancer.  Elizabeth was also a member of the Eastern Shore Youth Leadership Academy where community problems were discussed and potential solutions were developed by the Youth Leaders and then presented to community members.
