Taylee Thomas was a freshman at Chincoteague High School when she was named the 2017 Kate Award Winner.  Taylee participated in a wide number of volunteering activities throughout our community and has even helped to organize awareness/fundraising events all on her own.  Taylee is very active in her church, Island Baptist.  She frequently assisted her Youth Group in organizing/completing community events, such as “The 30 Hour Famine,” which is an event that raises funds and awareness for those who are less fortunate in our community as well as in other countries, and the annually held “Walk for Life” event on Chincoteague.  Taylee also helped with other events organized by her church such as: community dinners for the hungry, local group cleanup efforts, and working as a Teacher’s Assistant at Island Baptist’s Vacation Bible School.  Outside of her volunteering efforts through her church, Taylee has assisted in many other community events such as assisting her volleyball team with a Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser and volunteering with the Elks in Pocomoke, Maryland, for local fundraisers.  Taylee truly exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated community member!
